Jonny: “Dad, we talked about God at school today. Do you believe in God?”
Dad: “Some people believe there is a god; some believe there are many gods, and some believe there are none. Some gods are long forgotten, others are still worshiped. There have been thousands of gods and religions over the years. Most of them disagree with each other, so they can’t all be true. Almost always people believe in the same religion and the same god their parents believe in. As for me, I don’t believe in any gods because I have never seen any evidence that they exist. What do you think?”
Of course, not all atheists are the same, but this is how I spoke to my kids, and other atheists I talk to say similar things.
If this is indoctrination, it is indoctrination with facts, not fear; kindness, not coercion; asking, not telling. I have no problem with it at all.
So, how do atheists indoctrinate their children? They don’t.
